At Marlow Dog Training Club, your dog is the member. Pay for membership once, and use it whenever you want to, paying for the class when you arrive. 


At least 20% of the money we make is donated to charities each year, with the charity chosen by the members at the AGM.

Puppy Foundation Course

Puppy Foundation Course

A six week class to provide essential socialisation with other puppies and people.


Puppy age limit: 7 months

Course content: basic obedience commands (sit, down, touch, leave it, recall, stay, wait, heelwork), introduction to agility.


You will be sent a comprehensive email before each class with advice sheets, pictures and links to videos to help you with the exercises. 


If you are having any particular issues or just need some advice, we are happy to discuss in the class or separately if you prefer.

For dogs who have graduated from the Puppy Foundation Course, rehomed rescue dogs, or dogs who are just starting to learn the basics, and are working towards their Bronze Award.


There is no age restriction for this class, it's never too late to start training your dog.

Fun Agility: First Monday of the month. Tunnels, jumps, weaves, A-frame and see-saw. A different form of training.

For dogs who have gained their Bronze Award, or dogs who have already mastered the basics and are ready to work towards the Silver Award.

AWARDS

As you progress through the classes, we mark your achievements with awards that correspond to the level you have  attained. The beginners class work towards the Bronze Award, the intermediate class work towards the Silver Award, and the advanced class work towards the Gold Award. A description of each award is below.

Bronze

Identification, Collar & Lead

  • ensure collar and tag comply with current laws
  • demonstrate they can put on and remove their dog’s collar and lead safely

Grooming & Examination

  • handler must be able to groom and examine their dog without a struggle or any sign of aggression from the dog. This is essential for all visits to the vet.

Controlled Greeting

  • Dogs should be able to meet and greet other people and dogs in a controlled and polite manner, not jumping up or showing too much enthusiasm or any aggression.

Heel on Lead

  • Dogs should be able to walk in a calm manner on the lead, and amongst other dogs and people, without lunging or getting too distracted.

Novice Recall

  • Dogs should return to the owner on command, without too much of a detour.

Distance Down 

  • Handlers should be able to command dogs into a down position, whilst being a few paces away.

Finish 

  • Handlers should be able to get their dogs to the finish position on command, especially after a recall.

Sit

  • Dogs should be able to remain in the sit position, either on or off lead, without moving for 30 seconds

Down

  • Dogs should be able to remain in the down position, either on or off lead, without moving for 30 seconds. 

SILVER

Grooming & Examination

  • Dogs should be tolerant and well-mannered when being examined by the owner and strangers, as this will be essential for visits to the vet or groomer.

Heelwork

  • Dogs and owners should display steady heelwork, to a reasonable standard, both on and off lead.

Recall

  • Dogs and owners should be able to complete a novice recall including a finish, and an A recall, followed by heel work off lead, with some competence.
  • Dogs should be able to return to the owner, away from distractions, such as other dogs, people toys or food.

Distance Down 

  • Handlers should be able to command dogs into a down position, whilst being a few paces away (distance down).

Send away

  • Dogs should be able to touch a marker and go down on command.

Finish 

  • Handlers should be able to get their dogs to the finish position on command, especially after a recall.

Food manners

  • Dogs should be able to leave food when told, and exercise good manners when it is available to them, by not snatching or stealing.

Sit

  • Dogs should be able to complete a 1 minute sit stay

Down

  • Dogs should be able to complete a 2 minute down stay

Hold and Give

  • Dogs should be able to hold a dumbbell for a count of 10, and then give it back to the handler on command.
  • Handlers should be able to interact through play with the dog, and the dog give up toys on request.


GOLD

Heelwork

  • Dogs and owners should display steady heelwork, to a very good standard, both on and off lead, and at different pace speeds.

Recall

  • Dogs and owners should be able to complete a novice recall including a finish, and an A recall, followed by heel work off lead, to a very good standard.
  • Dogs should be able to return to the handler, away from distractions, such as other dogs, people toys or food.

Send away

  • Dogs should be able to be sent away to a position and go down on command.

Finish 

  • Handlers should be able to get their dogs to the finish position on command, especially after a recall.

Sit

  • Dogs should be able to complete a 2 minute sit stay, with the handler out of the room

Down

  • Dogs should be able to complete a 3 minute down stay, with the handler in or out of the room. 
  • Handlers should be able to command a dog into a down position from at least 10 paces away.
  • Handlers should be able to stop and drop their dog into the down position, whilst they are carrying out a recall.

Fetch, Hold, Give and Leave

  • Dogs should be able to wait while a dumbbell is thrown or placed, fetch it on command and return to sit in front of the handler. The dumbbell is returned to the handler on command.
  • Handlers should be able to interact through play with the dog, and the dog give up toys on request.
  • Dogs should be able to leave food when told, and exercise good manners when it is available to them, by not snatching or stealing.

Scentwork

  • Dogs should be able to identify a scented cloth and retrieve it, amongst a collection of non-scented cloths.
