To make sure everyone can have fun and stay safe, owners, handlers and members must follow these rules at all times.
These rules will be reviewed periodically, so please check back to make sure that you are always up to date.
Everyone shall act responsibly and with respect to their dogs, other dogs, other owners/handlers and the instructors. Mobile phones should be on silent or turned off for the duration of the class.
Owners/Handlers are responsible for their dog at all times, including, behaviour, hygiene and wellbeing. In addition, Owners are responsible for any injury or accident caused by their dogs, and are advised to have appropriate insurance in place.
Dogs must have properly fitted, fit for purpose, equipment such as collars and leads. They should remain on the lead and under control at all times (unless instructed otherwise by an instructor).
Excessive correction or harsh handling of dogs as judged by the instructors will not be tolerated.
There is a one dog, one handler policy (except for handlers under the age of 16, or handlers with special needs). Due to lack of space, we cannot accommodate additional owners, handlers or guests. The family can take it in turns to be the handler.
Young people from the age of 10 - 16 can be approved to train their dogs in our classes by the instructors. A parent or guardian must be present in the hall at all times to supervise.
Handlers should wear sensible dress with appropriate footwear (e.g. no heels, sliders, flip-flops or clogs) during training, and consider the effect of leads, loose bags and scarves on their dog.
Dogs must be regular attendees at Obedience classes in the month leading up to Agility if they want to come to the Agility class.
As a condition of membership, all dogs are required to be properly vaccinated according to current veterinary guidelines. Any injury caused by a Dog must be reported to the club either as part of the registration process or no later than the first class attended following the incident. Bitches in season and/or dog/s which are unwell or have an infectious condition are not permitted to attend training, or even enter the hall.
In line with current legislation, dogs that are or should be listed on index of exempted dogs (IED) must have a dog to handler ratio of 1:1 at all times. All guidelines under the IED must be strictly adhered to. The dog must be neutered, microchipped, kept on a lead and muzzled at all times.
Dogs with a history of biting, must be muzzled. MDTC reserves the right to ask any owner/handler to muzzle or in extreme cases, remove their dog/s from the club. If a muzzle is required this must be worn before entering the training area or hall.
